How age is calculated
The calculator counts complete years since the date of birth, then complete months, then the remaining days, allowing for month lengths and leap years. It also shows the total in months, weeks and days, which is how doctors usually describe babies' ages.
If your baby was born before 37 weeks, subtract the number of weeks born early (40 minus the weeks of pregnancy at birth) to get corrected age. Use it for milestones, growth charts and feeding until about 2 years; vaccines still follow actual age.
School admission rules use age on a cut-off date. In India, the National Education Policy sets Class 1 entry at 6 years, with state-specific cut-off dates.

How do I calculate my baby's age in months?
Count the complete months since the date of birth. A baby born on 15 January is 3 months old on 15 April.
What is corrected age?
Corrected age is a premature baby's age minus the weeks they were born early. A 6-month-old born 8 weeks early has a corrected age of 4 months.
When do you stop using corrected age?
Usually around 2 years, by which time most premature babies have caught up.
What age can my child join Class 1 in India?
Under the National Education Policy, children should be 6 years old to start Class 1. States set their own cut-off dates, so check with your school.
