Baby weight and height chart by month

Quick answer
An average baby weighs about 3.3 kg (boys) or 3.2 kg (girls) at birth, about 7.9 / 7.3 kg at 6 months and 9.6 / 8.9 kg at 1 year (WHO medians). Weights between the 3rd and 97th percentile are usually normal; steady growth along one curve matters more than any single number.

Questions parents ask
What is a normal weight for my baby?
Anything between the 3rd and 97th percentile is usually normal. What matters most is that your baby keeps growing along roughly the same curve over time, which your doctor checks at routine visits.
How much weight should a newborn gain?
Many babies lose up to about 10% of their birth weight in the first days and regain it by about 2 weeks. After that, most gain roughly 150–200 g a week in the first months.
Are these charts right for Indian babies?
Yes. The WHO standards (0–2 years) were built from healthy, breastfed children in six countries including India, and India's IAP recommends them for children under 5.
Talk to your doctor if
- your baby hasn't regained their birth weight by about 2 weeks
- weight or length drops across two or more major percentile lines
- your child is below the 3rd or above the 97th percentile and you haven't discussed it
- your baby is feeding poorly, has few wet nappies or seems unwell
